Sheila Pinder

Non Executive Director

Sheila Pinder is CEO at Publishing Scotland. Sheila began her book industry career at B.T. Batsford, followed by a decade in the editorial design & production business Chapman Bounford & Associates, producing work for publishers including HarperCollins, The United Nations Environment Programme, Octopus, Osprey and DK. At the IPG, she organised the annual conference and led the emergence of the organisation as one of the UK’s most influential publishing voices.

During her seven years at NBN International, she was instrumental in the rebirth of the distribution company under its ownership by the US-based Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group. Her subsequent consulting and mentoring practice saw her working with many well-known independent publishers, often on M&As or supply chain projects.

After a short period as Interim MD at Inpress, she worked as a secondary school English teacher, including two years with the Teach First Leadership Development Programme in a school in central Peterborough. Following her return to the book industry, her work portfolio includes supporting publisher partnerships with system provider, Stison. Since 2022 she has worked with academic publisher Agenda in Newcastle upon Tyne on business development, and she also currently chairs the advisory board at Birmingham-based Nine Arches Press.
