BookSource celebrated its 30th anniversary at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, marking three decades of dedication to the independent publishing community.

The anniversary celebration took place during Publishing Scotland's annual summer drinks event, bringing together members, current and former directors, colleagues, and clients to reminisce about BookSource’s journey and its significant impact over the years.

BookSource was established in 1995 by Publishing Scotland (formerly known as the Scottish Publishers Association) in response to the news that the Albany Book Company, which was distributing titles for about eight of its publisher members, was going into receivership. Now, thirty years later and still owned by Publishing Scotland, BookSource distributes for over 170 publishers across the UK.

BookSource quickly became a vital partner for publishers throughout the UK, currently distributing for over 170 publishers. Managing Director Davinder Bedi commented, “Helping publishers do business is what we do at BookSource. This was our mission when we were founded 30 years ago, and it remains our mission today. Thank you, 351 publishers, for supporting us over the last 30 years, and for just doing what you do. You are, indeed, the lifeblood of our industry.”

This year’s celebration also had a bittersweet tone as attendees bade farewell to Marion Sinclair, the outgoing CEO of Publishing Scotland. Since taking the helm in 2008, Sinclair has been a vital force in the sector, fostering collaboration and growth.

At the event, Marion Sinclair said: “It's been a real privilege to have served in the industry and book publishing sector over the years of Publishing Scotland. It's given me the opportunity to work with so many inspirational people over the years and companies who have contributed to the success of Scottish publishing and writing with a sense of cultural mission, community and heart. I will miss the camaraderie and the daily interactions with all of you and I can't wait to see what you do next.”
