We're introducing a small order charge from 1st April 2019
Our mission is to help publishers do business and since being formed by Publishing Scotland in 1995 we have been doing just that, to the extent that we now have almost 100 client lists in our portfolio and are one of the most respected book distributors in the UK.
Like other industries, the publishing sector has seen considerable change in recent times. Rising carriage costs and volatile fuel surcharges, together with a ‘little and often’ approach to ordering by customers, are placing considerable financial burden on how we and our clients operate. At the same time we must continue to ensure that there are books on shelves for customers to enjoy and this is something we want to support.
We want to keep giving you the best service but to do so we also need to change. We want to encourage you to place orders in quantities which are economical for us all or allow us to treat smaller orders differently, and to that end we are introducing a Small Order Surcharge.
From 1st April 2019 a Small Order Surcharge of £4 will be applied to all orders lower than £50 at order value after discount (i.e. the value of the order regardless of stock being available at that time). All orders which are £50 or more at order value will not be subject to surcharge.
This charge will only be applied once to an order, which means that any lines which are backordered and then subsequently fulfilled will not carry a surcharge, because it has already been applied at the point of order (if applicable).
Further, should any low value order that you’ve placed merge with another, or with released backorders, to the extent that we end up sending you more than £50 worth of product then our system will cancel the small order surcharge.
It is possible to avoid the Small Order Surcharge altogether, either by placing larger orders with us or by asking us to hold on to your smaller orders (less than £50) for longer. We can set your account to hold small orders until you reach £50. To set your account not to surcharge please click here (you’ll need your BookSource account number).
We hope you understand why it has become necessary to make this change, and we want to assure you that it will allow us to continue to provide you with the best possible service whilst at the same time helping publishers do business.
If there is anything about this you would like to discuss, or indeed any other aspect of BookSource, please click here to drop us a line and we'll respond as soon as we can.
Kind Regards
The BookSource Team
