Trustees

One of the founding principles of BookSource is protection of our client publishers’ cash and we do this by utilising the skills of two external professionals, Willie Anderson and Charles Smith. They are responsible for ensuring that publishers’ cash is kept in a separate bank account from all other company cash and approving the transferral of cash to publishers each month.

Willie Anderson

Willie has worked for John Smith & Son since 1973. He was appointed to the Board of the Company in 1979 and became Managing Director in 1994. He is now Deputy Chairman.

Outside of John Smith’s, Willie has played a prominent role in trade affairs. From 1995 to 1997 he was President of the Booksellers Association of GB and Ireland, when the Net Book Agreement was abandoned. He is Chairman of Book Tokens Ltd. He is, also, a non-Executive Director of the Edinburgh University Press and on the Advisory Board of the Centre for Publishing Studies at the University of Stirling. From 1989 to 1994 he sat on the Management Committee of the Booker Prize, has been a judge both for the Whitbread Literary Prize and the Macallan Short Story Competition and was a member of the Literature Panel of the Scottish Arts Council.

Charles Smith B.Acc. C.A.

Charles graduated in Accountancy from the University of Glasgow in 1976, going on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with the firm of Downie Wilson (now Scott-Moncrieff). Since 1992, he has operated from owned offices in Glasgow's West-End, now sharing with three similar practices. He has experience of working with grant-aided organisations, in addition to his core client base of owner-managed businesses.
