About BookSource
BookSource is one of Britain's fastest growing book distributors, supplying books and other printed products to both the retail trade and general public throughout the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.
History
The company was founded in 1995 by Publishing Scotland (PS) (then the Scottish Publishers Association). At the time many PS publishers were distributed by a company called Albany, which had been experiencing financial difficulties. In order to protect publisher funds, BookSource was formed to handle order processing, invoicing and cash collection for those publishers and in 1996 began to offer a full distribution service.
Ownership
The majority of the company is owned by PS (90%) with the remainder of the shares being held by five client publishers. Our ownership ensures that our number one priority is service rather than shareholder return.
Management
The company is managed by a Board that comprises publishing professionals with a range of expertise. Two of the five non executive positions are filled on an ex-officio basis by the Treasurer and the Chief Executive of PS – which ensures that the company is always mindful of the pressures that small presses face on a day to day basis.
