Lorraine was Director of the Scottish Publishers Association and CEO of its successor organisation, Publishing Scotland from 1987 – 2008. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Library of Scotland and of Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature. She was formerly a member of the British Council Publishers Advisory Committee, the Publishing Qualifications Board and the Institute of Publishing Advisory Board.
Christian has managed Floris Books for over 30 years, and is still involved with Floris. Floris' distribution has ranged from do-it-yourself, through pick and pack only, to full third party distribution with a number of companies. Floris has a very high proportion of export and Christian has experience in a variety of markets around the world. He was a Council member and Treasurer of Publishing Scotland for many years until retiring in 2010.
Mike was Chairman and Managing Director of Blackie and Son Limited, a position that he held for 15 years until the eventual sale of the company. He has been a Director of Book Marketing Ltd, Director and Chairman of Book Promotions (in South Africa), Chair of both Book Trust Scotland and the Scottish Publishers Association and a committee member of BDC – the export arm of the Publishers Association. He retired from Geddes & Grosset in 2010. Mike was appointed Chairman of the BookSource Board in January 2007.
Marion Sinclair is Chief Executive of Publishing Scotland. She has a background of 20 years in Publishing as Editorial Director of a literary press; in publishing education as Programme leader and Lecturer in the MSc in Publishing Media at Napier University; and in development work for Publishing Scotland.
Philip Walters was MD and then CEO of Hodder Education from 1997-2009. After retiring from Hodder after over 30 years he now works for a variety of companies in a non-executive director capacity. These companies include Yale University Press (London), Rising Stars Ltd and Nelson Croom. He is also now Course Director of the Publishing Training Centre's Commissioning and List Management Course. He will become Chair of the charity, Book Aid International, in May 2011. He was awarded an MBE for services to educational publishing in 2010.
Dr Keith Whittles
After studying geology at Cardiff and Keele Universities, Keith moved from academia into publishing, joining Blackie in Glasgow as a commissioning editor in engineering and the applied physical sciences. In 1986 he left to become a freelance editor. He commissioned technical books for most of the international publishing companies active in the UK and also provided a book production service to companies and individuals. He eventually began publishing in the maritime sphere under the Whittles Publishing imprint. In addition to his responsibilities with BookSource and Whittles Publishing, Keith is the chair of Publishing Scotland.
